Per tornare al punto dal quale siamo partiti - contemplare il creato e il non-creato - vorrei finire con questa piccola storia che si trova nelle scritture. Uno dei monaci, che aveva immensi poteri psichici, voleva conoscere la risposta ad un grosso quesito che lo tormentava durante la meditazione: ‘Dov’è che i quattro grandi elementi cessano senza lasciare residuo?’. Cioè dove hanno fine i fondamentali elementi della realtà materiale: terra, acqua, fuoco, aria?
A quanto pare questo monaco viaggiò attraverso tutti i reami dei Deva attraverso tutti i mondi di Brahma per porre agli dei questa domanda; arrivò al più higher realm of Brahma and was able to ask in person for the Great Brahma, the god higher than all should know.

Monaco returned to the realms of humans, he found the Buddha and asked the question:" Where 'is that the four great elements cease without leaving residue?. "The Buddha said:" Monaco, you asked the question the wrong way, rather you should ask ... where are the four elements are based on? ".
The Buddha continuò: "Dove la coscienza è senza segno, senza limiti, tutta luminosa, ecco dove la terra, l’acqua, il fuoco e l’aria non trovano fondamento. Lì lungo e corto, piccolo e grande, bello e brutto, nome e forma, sono completamente distrutti, con la cessazione della coscienza tutto questo è distrutto."
Nome e forma sono nama-rupa , pensiero e materia. Il Buddha indica un luogo dove la mente che si attacca al pensiero e alla materia non è più attiva, quindi non c’è più la creazione di soggetto/oggetto nei confronti del ‘mondo’, la coscienza dualistica non opera più. "Con la cessazione della coscienza tutto questo è distrutto".
Questa frase: ‘cessazione della coscienza’, a volte confonde le persone. Si tratta di attenuare l'abituale attività della mente che è distratta dal contatto, dagli oggetti dei sensi. Non si tratta di essere in , annientati o annichiliti. Quello che il Buddha ha detto: "la coscienza (che) è senza segno, senza limiti, tutta luminosa", a me sembra abbastanza positivo. La mente che non re-agisce più al contatto dei sensi e che quindi non ri-crea il mondo che abitiamo in quanto esseri dotati di psiche, si trova nella pace definitiva.
